My significant other and I have been living in Denver, Colorado for years. We take advantage of the beauty this state has to offer, planning a weekend getaway almost every weekend. Going from the snow-capped mountains to the flat valleys, there is no shortage of views that still take my breath away.
You can explore the city and camp in national parks or jump into the hot springs and hike to mountain tops. Whatever your interests, Colorado offers plenty of options for couples who are looking for a romantic and exciting weekend escape.
1. Strawberry Springs in Steamboat
Strawberry Park Hot Springs in Steamboat is the perfect weekend getaway in Colorado for couples looking for a romantic retreat. The springs are perched atop a mountain just outside of Steamboat and provide a serene escape in nature.
Couples can choose between different pool options ranging from piping hot to cooler pools, depending on their preference. You can even cool off in the frigid river water that runs next to the heated springs for an adrenaline rush.
I’m a Caribbean girl who spends half my time on the beaches of Aruba, so being landlocked in Denver isn’t easy. I’m always searching for the best natural pools and springs around. Strawberry Springs definitely makes the list for one of my favorites!
Little mountain cabins can be rented to stay on the property, allowing couples maximum privacy and comfort during their stay. After sundown, the springs turn clothing optional for a friskier night out. Regardless of what you choose, Strawberry Springs is sure to provide an unforgettable experience for couples looking for a mountain escape.
2. Steamboat Springs
If you don’t want to venture up the mountain to the springs, staying in Steamboat Springs is also a great option for couples. The quaint town provides plenty of activities. Take the biking and walking trails to downtown Steamboat’s cute shops, incredible views, and some delicious restaurants. Don’t leave without a Banana Nutella Sandwich from the Creekside Cafe and Grill!
Enjoy a scenic stroll through the downtown area or take a hike to the top of any of the mountains surrounding the city.
There’s something for everyone in Steamboat Springs – from shopping and exploring to relaxing with your loved one. Whatever you choose, you’re sure to have a romantic getaway filled with memories in Steamboat Springs!
3. Weekend Getaway in Downtown Breckenridge
Spending the weekend in downtown Breckenridge is a great way to enjoy the outdoors while also exploring the energetic downtown area.
In the winter, Breckenridge Ski Resort is one of the most popular ski destinations in Colorado. At night, Main Street turns into a lively après ski strip, thanks to its many bars and restaurants.
When summer hits, Breckenridge transforms into a sunny mountain village with plenty of local shops and delicious restaurants to explore.
There are also tons of hikes for nature lovers, like The Trollstigen Trail which leads you to Isak Heartstone, a 15-foot tall wooden troll that has become Breckenridge’s most popular attraction. There’s also a convenient and free trolley that will take you around town!
4. Rocky Mountain National Park
Rocky Mountain National Park is full of spectacular mountain scenery and wildlife. The park has miles of scenic drives leading up to 12,000 feet of elevation, some of the best Colorado hiking trails (ranging from one mile to fourteeners), and camping opportunities.
Fishers can find an abundance of fish species in the park’s mountain lakes. If you love to spot wildlife (from afar, of course), there are over 60 species of mammals that call Rocky Mountain National Park home, including elk, sheep, deer, and many more.
With Rocky Mountain National Park just a short drive away from the Denver Airport, it’s the perfect way to spend some quality time outdoors if you’re flying into Denver for the weekend.
5. Denver
For a weekend getaway in Colorado, Denver packs a big punch. Start with Wash Park and City Park where you can spend to spend the day in one of the city’s beautiful green parks. The parks in Denver are one of the reasons I moved here in the first place – they’re filled with active locals walking, biking, and even playing in sports leagues like volleyball and tennis.
In the evening, bar hopping in LoHi is a great way to enjoy the city’s nightlife. The RiNo Art District offers plenty of breweries for those wanting to explore Denver’s craft beer scene. Lastly, don’t forget to end your night with a local ice cream from Little Man.
The neighborhoods in Denver are endless and each offers something unique. There are plenty of Denver hotels that are perfect for a weekend escape. With so much to do and see in Denver, it’s no wonder it’s such a popular weekend destination.
6. Camping in National Parks
Camping in Colorado is an experience like no other. This happens to be one of my favorite weekend getaways in Colorado for couples.
From campgrounds with convenient amenities in Rocky Mountain National Park to dispersed camping spots throughout the state, there’s something for everyone when it comes to camping in Colorado.
Colorado has over 40 state parks and countless national forests, so there are plenty of places to set up camp to begin your adventure. If you’re willing to venture into higher elevations, you might even be lucky enough to get views of the Milky Way Galaxy at night – truly an experience like no other.
Even if you opt for a “glamping” campsite with modern amenities, you can still enjoy all of the best parts of camping in Colorado.
I’m a summer girl, usually opting for beaches in Turks and Caicos versus hiding out in the mountains. But after moving to Colorado and camping under the stars for the first time, I haven’t been able to stay away.
Whether you’re looking for a peaceful weekend away or a weeklong backpacking adventure, there’s nothing quite like camping in Colorado.

The wide open area makes it an ideal escape; you can even hike the tallest sand dune in North America while you’re here! If you’re feeling adventurous, rent a sandboard and go zipping down the dunes or explore the area with a little bit of hiking.
Whatever your preference, Great Sand Dunes National Park offers plenty of opportunities to explore and take in the majestic beauty of the area.
9. Red Rocks
Red Rocks Amphitheater is a popular venue in the US and for good reason. It is literally built inside red rocks dating back millions of years ago, creating a unique atmosphere, unlike any other venue.
Tourists flock to Red Rocks for its incredible views, miles and miles of trails, and mesmerizing star gazing that set the perfect backdrop for the concerts held there all summer long.

Of course, you can’t forget about the iconic Pikes Peak, where you can hike or take the train up to the most popular mountain top in Colorado.
Adrenaline junkies will love tackling the Manitou Incline – a steep incline comprised of over 2,000 steps with an elevation gain of almost 2,000 feet in just a mile.
Hiking lovers can enjoy various trails or roam around Bear Creek Regional Park enjoying nature at its finest. There’s something for everyone in Colorado Springs!
11. Weekend in Vail
Vail is one of the United State’s most legendary ski resort towns. Skiing is obviously a major draw, but you can also enjoy a wide variety of winter activities like snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and tubing.
After a long day in the cold, relax in one of Vail’s many scenic hot tubs with breathtaking mountain views. If you prefer warmer weather activities, fly fishing, whitewater rafting, and mountain biking are all popular in the summer. With so much to do, it’s easy to see why Vail is such an incredibly popular destination year-round!
12. Telluride
I might be biased, but in my opinion, Telluride is the most beautiful place in Colorado. From the Million Dollar Highway to ghost towns buried deep in the mountains, there’s something for everyone in this unique mountain town.
Experienced hikers should check out Bear Creek Falls while more experienced outdoorsmen can take on Nordic skiing during the winter months.
Be sure to ride the gondola through town; it’s a truly unforgettable experience! It’s not the Bahamas, but it’s the closest you’ll get to paradise in Colorado.
